Medical Marijuana: Are There Any Benefits?

Share Button

Every day more and more reports, research and articles are released that address the question of whether there are truly benefits to medical marijuana. So far the science is conflicting…some say yes…some say no. Unfortunately marijuana has not been thoroughly studied by scientists and the DEA until the last 5 or so years in earnest.  Until this question is answered satisfactorily, people may be using marijuana and expecting the miracle cure and Marijuana will continue to be classified as a Schedule I drug under the Control Substances Act as the most dangerous category without any medicinal purpose.

We Need Further Testing about Medical Marijuana Benefits

Medical marijuana benefits
We still have more to learn.

According to the recent issue of the journal of Global Policy & Practice article entitled Assessing Physicians’ Perspectives and Knowledge of Medical Marijuana…, the  “American College of Physicians,  and other professional health-oriented societies have called for the FDA to reclassify marijuana as a Schedule II drug to open the door for more thorough empirical testing …”  Additionally, after a review of 80 studies of medical marijuana, the Addiction Science & Clinical Practice Sample (2015) 10:10 stated that there was “insufficient scientific evidence” to conclude that medical marijuana helps the most commonly recognized treatment of ailments including epilepsy. Until such time that a thorough evaluation of medical marijuana is concluded, the best that we know is “we really don’t know.”
