Jim Chance is a lawyer, professor, and recent recipient of the Federal Magistrate Judges Association’s Founders Award “for lasting and meaningful contributions” to the federal judiciary. (Previous recipients include two Chief Justices of the U.S. Supreme Court.) Jim served as Senior Judicial Education Attorney and Education Specialist at the Federal Judicial Center in Washington for more than 15 years before joining JSI. In addition to providing training for federal judges and law enforcement officers in the U.S., he has designed and delivered educational programs in Argentina, India, the Czech Republic, Finland, Poland, and Uzbekistan. Jim has served on the faculties of the International Law Institute in Washington, and the Academia de Intercambio y Estudios Judiciales (AIEJ) in Buenos Aires, and has provided instruction to officials from more than 30 nations. He holds degrees in Law (JD), Government & Politics (BA), and Theatre (MFA). He did postdoctoral study in Constitutional Laws (with David C. M. Yardley, CBE) at The Queen’s College at Oxford University, Leadership Skills at George Washington University’s Center for Excellence in Public Leadership, and Mediation Skills at Pepperdine University’s Strauss Institute for Dispute Resolution.
