Safe and sober housing is a major problem for participants in Recovery Courts. While program participants spend several hours each week involved in their programs, many participants spend the bulk of their time in the drug using subculture. JSI Associate Judge Harvey Hoffman (Ret) will discuss what the Michigan Association of Treatment Court Professionals and its partners are building in Michigan- Treatment Court Recovery Housing communities where program participants can live in safe and sober housing in a community the supports recovery.
Attendees will learn:
- How the use of federal Low-income Tax Credits can be used to cover the bulk of the bricks and mortar expense
- How most of the residents have subsidized Section 8 rent
- How a supportive community is built to support the resident’s recovery
- How 24/7 security and Treatment Court accountability provide a safe and sober environment for residents.
- How existing Treatment Court treatment services and funding streams can provide said services without new treatment funding.
