Community Supervision/Treatment Collaborative: A Collaborative Application of the RNR Model
August 29, 2023 @ 8:00 am - 9:30 am
With the ongoing evolution of the criminal justice system, there has been a greater recognition of the prevalence of behavioral health needs among individuals who have chronic contact with the criminal justice system. There is abundant research emphasizing the need to focus on those individuals who are assessed as having a high risk to recidivate and at the same time having a high level of criminogenic or clinical needs. With the Risk Need Responsivity (RNR) model as a backdrop, JSI Vice President Chief Mack Jenkins (Ret.) will address the necessary interplay between community supervision officers/agents (probation/parole) and treatment providers in working with a justice involved population with behavioral health issues. The interplay is not intuitive and must be carefully planned and executed. An overview of the RNR model and its principles will be presented. The presenter will discuss specific roles for community supervision and treatment in a collaborative case management approach. The session will present a supervision modality specifically suitable for collaboration with treatment and will also suggest training competencies for both roles. A checklist for applying collaborative case management will be provided.
