Building a Mental Health Court

JSI Associate Chief Cynthia Herriott (Ret.) will provide a comprehensive overview of the essential components needed to establish a Mental Health Court. Participants will learn about best practices for court design, stakeholder engagement, and tailored mental health interventions. The program also covers strategies for addressing the unique challenges that arise in creating a successful, sustainable court system to support individuals with mental health disorders within the justice system.

During this session, attendees will:

• Understand the key steps involved in establishing and implementing a Mental Health Court.
• Identify the roles and responsibilities of the problem-solving court team and community partners in supporting individuals with mental health needs.
• Develop strategies for integrating mental health treatment with court supervision to promote rehabilitation and reduce recidivism.
