Problem Solving Court Leadership Training by JSI

The Justice Speakers Institute (JSI), in collaboration with Colorado Court Services, conducted a specialized Problem Solving Court Training for Colorado judges. This program focused on equipping judges with the leadership skills necessary to guide effective Problem Solving Court teams. Attendees explored key team-building components such as clear objectives, balanced roles, effective communication, and structured decision-making processes.

The training emphasized fostering leadership that promotes experimentation and openness. JSI instructors, alongside the attendees, designed the program using both National and Colorado Best Practice Standards, ensuring a tailored learning experience.

Led by Judge Brian MacKenzie (Ret.) and Chief Mack Jenkins (Ret.), the program covered evidence-based practices for team composition, roles of team members, participation in staffing sessions, and review hearings. The training also addressed judicial ethics, Due Process Rights, and the judge’s critical role as team leader. Interactive discussions and breakout scenarios provided practical applications for these concepts.

Participants completed a pre-training survey assessing their knowledge of Problem Solving Courts and judicial ethical issues. This feedback was integrated into the program, enhancing its relevance and applicability. JSI’s Problem Solving Court Leadership Training offered judges a comprehensive understanding of best practices to ensure team success and ethical leadership.
